A three-year ACGME accredited fellowship program in Adolescent Medicine is offered by the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine and the Center for Adolescent Health at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford. The graduates of the fellowship program are envisioned as future academicians in the field of Adolescent Medicine.

Stanford University provides a unique setting for such a program because of the opportunities for collaboration with clinicians and scientists in other divisions within the Department of Pediatrics, other departments within the School of Medicine, as well as with other schools within the university.  The division has strong working relationships with the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the departments of Social Service and Clinical Nutrition.  In addition the Division of Adolescent Medicine has active alliances with the Santa Clara Juvenile Detention Facility, a San Francisco Public Health Clinic, the Vaden College Health clinic, and a Sports Medicine Clinic.

Supervision is provided by board-certified adolescent medicine specialists with diverse clinical and research interests.  One fellowship position is offered per year and the program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NMRP).  Only those applicants who have completed a minimum of three post-graduate training years in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Med/Peds, or Family Practice, and who plan a career in Adolescent Medicine, will be considered.  

Residents

All Stanford first year pediatric residents participate in our month-long Adolescent Medicine rotation focused on building effective communication skills and addressing common conditions affecting this age group. Clinical sites include our Teen Van, Stanford Teen Clinic, Stanford Eating Disorders Program (both clinic and hospital unit), Pediatric Sports Medicine, Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and the San Jose Juvenile Hall Clinic. Second or third year residents can also do an elective Advanced Adolescent rotation of 2-4 weeks to get further experience in areas of interest.

Visiting Residents

Residents from outside institutions can do a month long Adolescent Medicine elective with our division. Interested residents should contact our office at 650.736.9557.

Stanford third year medical students rotate through the Center for Adolescent Health Teen and Young Adult  Clinic and the Stanford Eating Disorders Clinic during their Pediatrics Core Clerkship (PEDS 300A). Additionally there is an Adolescent Medicine month long elective (PEDS 315A) which has a focus on adolescents with eating disorders.
